In order to answer this question, we first must understand the difference between permanent magnets and electromagnets.
Permanents magnets are materials which produce their own magnetic field. Unless the magnet is destroyed with high heat, its magnetic field will be constant with time.
In contrast, electromagnets use the principle of electromagnetic induction in order to produce a magnetic field. Their main property is that the strength of their field can be managed and because of that, urned on or off.
Therefore, electromagnets area better fit for fire doors because they can be turned on or off and because of that, doors dont have to remain permanently shut
