Both sound and light wave have to be recognized by sensory cells. When it comes to a light wave, those are rod and cones, and when it comes to a sound wave those are sensory cells in a cochlea. Once these cells pick up the signals, they sent it to the brain where they are being processed, in a different parts of brain.
