The wavelength of the sound source detected at A is 0.5 that of the sound detected at B.
f A = f v v v s
= 1 1 v s / v
And
f B = f v v + v s
= 1 1 + v s / v
Thus
f A f B = λ B λ A
= 1 + v s / v 1 v s / v
Since λ A = 0.5 λ B given.
2 = 1 + v s / v 1 v s / v
By solving for v s / v
v s v = 1 3
Result:
v s v = 1 3
