Good Fortune supermarket’s manager of San Gabriel claims that the average time to clean 10 pounds of catfish is 8 minutes. A random sample of 4 employees shows that the average time is 9 mins with a standard deviation of 2 minute. At the 0.05 significance level, can we conclude that the mean time is 8 minutes? What is the P-value? Leave your answer in 4 decimal places.

Null hypothesis, H 0 : u = 8
Alternative hypothesis, H 1 : u 8
Given:
Sample size, n = 4
Sample mean, x = 9
Sample standard deviation, s = 2
Test statistic, t = ( x u ) n 1 2 s
= ( 9 8 ) 4 1 2 2
= 1
Degrees of freedom, d = n 1 = 3
p-valie at (t=1) and at (d=3) for two-tailed test, obtained from a t-distribution table is 0.3910
Since, p-value > 0.05, so we failed to reject H0.Hence, we can conclude that the mean time is 8 minutes.
