You are making an error when you say
5 u 4 v + w = 5 u 4 v + w
Note In general, x + y x + y
There are couple of ways you can proceed:
Either you can first compute the vector 5u−4v+w using basic vector algebra and then compute it's magnitude. OR
You can use the following
a + b + c 2 = ( a + b + c ) ( a + b + c ) = a a + b b + c c + 2 ( a b + b c + c a ) = a 2 + b 2 + c 2 + 2 ( a b + b c + c a )

I have calculated the cross product of the direction vectors to get the vector perpendicular to both lines:

Which gives the vector n .
I then got a vector V between a point on each line, and calculated the minimum distance d between both lines by finding the scalar projection of V onto n

So we first find | a | = 83 and then | b | = 10
We find cos θ using
a b = | a | | b | c o s θ
Which is:
14 = 83 10 cos θ cos θ = 14 830
Now we want to find a b ^ where b ^ = b | b | so we get:
a b | b | = 14 10
but it should have a direction, so the answer is 14 10 b ^ ? but we have used b ^ = b | b | in the calculation
