Step 1
None of these equations describe the graph.
If we look at the only point that is at an exact position, (5,3).. none of the equations in the picture will give you that point.
If you want one that is similar, and has the same slope, well, that's not happening either
If we estimate that the first point is (3,1.5) and use that in combination with (5,3) we obtain a slope
3 ( 1.5 ) 5 3 = 1.5 2 = 3 4
Following the equation for a straight line, y = m x + b , where m is the slope, and b is the y intercept, none of these equations have anything close to a 3 4 slope.
Just so you understand, I honestly think either we aren't seeing all of the possible equations, or your book has a misprint. To prove this, if one of those choices is a viable solution, then it must form a true stament when evaluated at point (5,3), when x=5, and y=3..lets run through them allF. 3 = 2 ( 5 ) + 1 3 = 11 FALSE
G. 3 = 3 ( 5 ) 2 3 = 13 FALSE
H. 3 = 5 ( 5 ) 10 3 = 15 FALSE
J. 3 = 4 ( 5 ) 5 3 = 15 FALSE
If my estimate of the first point is accurate at (3, 1.5), then the only equation that represents both that point, and (5, 3) would be
y = 3 4 x 3 4
