Let y be the quantity in mL of the 60% solution and x be thequantity in mL of the 30% solution... you then have the equation 0.6y + 0.3x = 0.5*300
or multiply through by 10 and we have 6y + 3x = 1500
divide through by 3 and we have 2y + x = 500
which is a linear equation.. y = 250 - 1/2*x
or in words...
The quantity of the 60% solution equals 250 mLminus half the quantity of the 30% solution
