Using the formula chart:
A. Find the sum of the first 50 odd numbers
This sum we can find by using formula :
1 + 3 + 5 + . . . + ( 2 n 1 ) = n 2
Here the 50 odd numbers are 1 , 3 , 5 , 7 , . . .99.
n = 50
1 + 3 + 5 + . . . + ( 2 50 1 ) = 502 = 2500
1 + 3 + 5 + . . . + 99 = 2500
B. Find the sum of the squares of the first 20 even numbers
The formula for sum of the squares of the first 20 even numbers is :
Even Numbers = 2 2 + 4 2 + 6 2 + 8 2 + . . . + ( 2 n ) 2 = 2 n ( n + 1 ) ( 2 n + 1 ) / 3
Here n = 20
sum of the squares of the first 20 even numbers is = 2 20 ( 20 + 1 ) 2 20 + 1 3
= 40 21 41 3 = 11480
