Use the Euclidean distance:
$d=\sqrt{\Delta {x}^{2}+\Delta {y}^{2}}=\sqrt{{\left(3-0\right)}^{2}+{\left(0-4\right)}^{2}}=\sqrt{{3}^{2}+{4}^{2}}=\sqrt{9+16}=\sqrt{25}=5$

Understanding it: Geometrically speaking, draw a line between these two points in the Cartesian system. Afterwards, draw a vertical line and a horizontal line in each of the points. You can notice that they form 2 triangles which have a ${90}^{o}$ angle each. Pick one of them and apply the Pythagorean theorem.
