Difference: Transverse waves carry energy, whereas standing waves do not carry energy. The former exists in open space while the latter is in confined space. There are places on a standing wave that never move (nodes).
Similarity: Both are solutions of the same partial differential wave equation.
Transverse waves carry energy, standing waves don't. Both are solutions of partial differential equation.
