Amplitude: The distance covered by the object after it starts from the equilibrium position to the peak value on either side=A.
The amount it deviates from the mean position.
I think the way this is worded means the answer the teacher is looking for is 2A, the total distance travelled is twice the amplitude (correctly defined above)
It all depends on the interpretation of the question (poor question, IMHO)
