In a two dimensional plane, distance between two points ( x 1 , y 1 ) and ( x 2 , y 2 ) is given by
( x 2 - x 1 ) 2 + ( y 2 - y 1 ) 2
and in three dimensional space, distance between two points ( x 1 , y 1 , z 1 ) and ( x 2 , y 2 , z 2 ) is given by
( x 2 - x 1 ) 2 + ( y 2 - y 1 ) 2 + ( z 2 - z 1 ) 2
Hence, the distance between (-6,3,1) and (0,4,-2) is
( 0 - ( - 6 ) ) 2 + ( 4 - 3 ) 2 + ( - 2 - 1 ) 2
6 2 + 1 2 + ( - 3 ) 2 = 36 + 1 + 9 = 46 = 6.782
