Why is ( 1 2 ) x = 1 7 the same as saying: ( 2 ) x = 7
Sorry for the really dumb question but I'd like to see the process of how this is achieved.

Consider an equality when two fractions are present:
a b = c d 
where b  0  d. We can flip them over, and say that
b a = d c 
where a  0  c
Applying that to this. Initially, we distribute the x:
( 1 2 ) x = 1 x 2 x 
Now let's add this back in:
1 x 2 x = 1 7 
If we flip this, we have
2 x 1 x = 7 1 
Finally, consider what 1 x equals, and what 7 1 simplifies to.
