Helmholtz free energy: - Helmholtz free energy is a thermodynamic potential that uses to calculate the work done by a closed system at constant temperature and volume.
Mathematically it is given by-
Helmohltz free energy: F = U−TS
From the second law of thermodynamics
Internal energy at constant volume and temperature is a function of entropy (S) only.
=>Helmohltz free energy at constant volume and temperature is Q - TS
Now Q -TS to be positive, S must be negative as T can never be negative.
Thus, change in entropy of system must be negative for positive Helmholtz free energy closed system at constant temperature and volume.
Correct option is (a).
