This emission of energy from electrons will be responsible for the hydrogen spectra with each transition donated by a separate line.
The ground state of the hydrogen atom is represented by n=1, the first excited state is represented by n=2, and the second excited state is represented by n=3.
The Balmer series corresponds to the collection of spectral lines that is used to represent a transition of electrons from a higher energy state of the hydrogen atom to the first excited state, i.e., n=2.
For example, the transition of an electron from n=3 to n=2 is a part of Balmer series.
