From the identity sin2θ+cos2θ=1 and cos2θ=cos2θsin2θ, rewrite the LHS as
12(1cosx)=12(sin2(x2)+cos2(x2)(cos2(x2)sin2(x2)))
=12(sin2(x2)+cos2(x2)cos2(x2)+sin2(x2))
=12(2sin2(x2))
=sin2(x2)
