When the data is in number we can measure the data in different forms, but when the numbers are not numeric, then we require the level of measurement. They are nominal scale and ordinal scale. On a nominal scale assign a number for every unit for identification of the categories. For example roll number to the student's name. Similarly, ordinary category numbers assigned to the observation, and are arranged in ascending order. For example, the rank of a student.
1. In the first situation we use the level of measurement as an ordinal scale. Here we arranged the singers according to their performance, Hence this is an ordinal scale.
Here sampling method is a cluster sampling method. Since it is a competition, From all the students we take a cluster of singers. From that, we take most top 15 singers among all the singers. Hence it is cluster sampling.
2. In the second situation, the level of measurement is nominal scale. Just for identification of category, he writes the name in the jersey. Hence it is a nominal scale.
