Dale is going to rent a car for the weekend. He can choose one of two plans. The first plan has an initial fee of $55 and costs an additional $0.40 per mile driven. Let number of miles Dale drives be x
Let total cost be y
Plan 1: y=55+0.4x
Plan 2: y=0+0.6x
Thus, we have
55+0.4x=0.6x
55=0.60.4x
55=0.2x
x=550.2
x=275 miles
Substitute in Plan 1: 55+0.4x=55+0.4(275)=$165
Substitute in Plan 2: 0.6x=0.6(275)=$165
