We need to describe four scales of measurement.
Four scales of measurements are
1. Nominal scale
2. Ordinal scale
3. Interval scale
4. Ratio scale.
1. Nominal scale:
Here, data is classified using characteristics such as gender, race, region, religion etc.
Even if numbers are used, they donot have any specific meaning but only used as labels.
In Nominal scale, counting is only permissible operation.
Mode is the measure of central tendency that is suitable.
2. Ordinal scale:
Here, order matters a lot. We can place the objects in a series based on the order or ranks given by using ordinal scale .
We cannot find actual difference between two categories.
Other than counting, order relations are also possible.
Median is the measure of central tendency that is suitable.
3. Interval scale:
In this case, counting, order and the difference operations hold.
But, a true zero doesn't exist.
Mean is the measure of central tendency that is most suitable in the interval scale of measurement.
4. Ratio scale:
In Ratio scale, counting, order , difference and natural zero exist
Geometric mean, harmonic mean are measures of centra tendency that is suitable in ratio scale of measurement.
