You have to recall the fundamental limit
limx±(1+1x)x=e
Think of it as a general rule like this:
lim±(1+1)=e
where the star can be substituded by any expression (which tends to ±).
So
limx±(1+ax)x=limx±[(1+1xa)xa]axx=ea
