A study done by Dr. S. Friedler, a trained mime and a physician, found evidence that being entertained by live clowns immediately after in-vitro fertilization (IVF) may increase conception rates (Friedler et al, 2011) DOI: 10.1016. Yes, this real study was about whether watching 15 minutes of ‘medical clowning’ after an embryo transfer or IVF would affect the chance of a successful pregnancy. The 186 women in the study were randomly assigned to either clown or no clown condition. Please use these data to test whether pregnancy rates were independent of being entertained by a clown after IVF. Show your work and include each step in the hypothesis testing process.
 Observed data:  Pregnant  Not Pregnant  Clown 3360 No Clown 1875
a. State the null and alt hypotheses.
b. Find df and critical value for the chi-square test.
c. Calculate the expected frequencies and the chi-square test value. Is it significant?

We want to find the
a. State the null and alt hypotheses.
b. Find df and critical value for the chi-square test.
c. Calculate the expected frequencies and the chi-square test value. Is it significant?
Note: According to Bartleby Expert guideline, we can answer only first three subparts of a question and rest can be reposted.
a) H0:pregnancy rates were independent of being entertained by a clown after ivf.
H1: Pregnancy rates were not independent of being entertained by a clown after ivf.
b) χ{critical}2=3.8415 at α=0.05+df=1

c)  Observed data  Pregnant  Not pregnant  Total  Clown 33(a)60(b)93(a+b) No clown 1B(c)75(d)93(c+d) Total 51(a+c)135(b+d)186=N
χ2=N(adbc)2(a+c)(b+d)(a+b)(c+d)=186(33×7518×60)251×135×93×93=6.0784
χ2<χ{critical}2
so it is not significant
