(b)set the quantity inside the absolute value notation equal to + and - the quantity on the other side of the equation
(c) solve for the unknowns in both the equations
(d) now check the answer graphically and analytically
for example
|2x5|=5
The absolute value is already isolated either 2x+1=5 or 2x-1=-5
now solve the equation
2x-1=5
2x=6
x=3
2x-1=-5
2x=-4
x=-2
check the solutions by substituting in the equation
|2(3)1|=5
5=5
|2(2)1|=5
5=5
therefore x = -2,3 are two solutions.
