We have to calculate 56÷4:
144)56. Divide integers 5÷4=1
144)564     16 16        0
Divide integers 5÷4=1
Multiply 14=4. Then subtract.
Write down 6 and divide integers 16÷4=4.
Multiply 44=16. Then subtract.

Green bags must hold 1/4th of the balls (as we divided them, by color, in the ratio 3:1). Thus there a 14 balls in the green bags, hence 42 in the red bags.
Findind the number of ball in each bag
Well, whatever that number is it must divide both 14 and 42, hence it is a common factor of those two numbers. But we can list those common factor (1,2,7,14). Each of these gives us a solution!
1. 1 ball in each of 14 green and 42 red bags.
2. 2 ball in each of 7 green and 21 red bags.
3. 7 balls in each of 2 green and 6 red bags.
4. 14 balls in each of 1 green and 3 red bags. (Unless you interpret the problem as requiring plural green bags.)

If we divide 56 by 4 we get 14. Why by 4? So that one number is 3 times the other. So he had 14 balls that went into the green bags and 42 (56-14) that went into the red bags. We could just answer the question and say 14 but I think they want to know how many in each green bag.
14 and 42 don't work because they are not the same number of balls. What number is a common factor? 7 is,
We could have 2 green bags and split the 14 balls into 2 groups of 7 and with the remaining 42 - put them into 6 red bags of 7 each.
And so the answer to your question is:
7ball in each bag=2bags are green, and 6 bags are red
14 balls+42 balls=56 bouncy balls
