Explanation:
We are starting with 12+14
If both fractions had 4 as the denominator, we would be in good shape. We need a "common denominator".
OK, one of the algebra rules is that if you multiply both top and bottom of a fraction by the same value, no change in value happens. So let's take that 12 and play with it.
If you multiply both top and bottom of the fraction by 2, it becomes
2122=24
That algebra rule that I paraphrased says that no change in value happened when we did that. So now we have
24+14=2+14=34
I hope this helps

In order to add two fractions with different denominators, one or all denominator must convert (be the same).
Two methods:
Take the denominators and multiply them together, ie 2×4=8.
The numbers will change ,but the faction will be the same 12=48 and 14=28.
Now you can add : 48+28=68 which is equal to 34.
By observing the problem 12 is equal to 24. You now have both fractions with the same denominator.
Now add: 24+14=34

Addition or subtraction of fractions can be done only if they have same denominator 1/2 and 1/4 are having different denominators. convert them into fractions with same denominator Find the LCM of 2 and 4 [if the smaller number divides the bigger number, the bigger is the LCM] LCM=4 1/2 = 1*2/2*2 = 2/4 1/4 = 1*1/4*1 = 1/4 1/2 + 1/4 = 2/4 + 1/4 = (2 + 1)/4 = 3/4

Step 1: Find a common denominator for the fractions 1/2 and 1/4. In this case, the smallest common denominator is 4.
Step 2: Rewrite both fractions with the common denominator:
12=24and14=14
Step 3: Add the fractions:
24+14
Step 4: Combine the numerators over the common denominator:
2+14=34
Therefore, 1/2+1/4 is equal to 34.
