Use Vieta's formulas to find the sum and product of the roots of each of the follow -ing quadratics. You don't actually have to find the roots $x^{2} + 3 x - 5 = 0$

x^{2} + 3 x - 5 = 0

Compare with

a x^{2} + b x + c = 0

\Rightarrow a = 1, b = 3, c = - 5

Step 2
Sum of the roots

= \frac{- b}{a}

= \frac{- 3}{1} = - 3

Product of the roots

= \frac{c}{a}

= \frac{- 5}{1}

= - 5
