However, the Fourier transform is then applied to a continuous superposition or integral of complex exponentials to describe a broad, nonperiodic function. Periodic and non-periodic signals are converted from the time domain to the frequency domain using the Fourier transform. Given that Fourier series are a condensed version of time domain periodic functions, it can also convert Fourier series into the frequency domain.
