σ = Population standard deviation = 2.9 
For confidence level 1α=0.90, determine zα2=z0.05 Consulting the normal probability table in the appendix (look up 0.05 in the table, the z-score is then the found z-score with opposite sign):
zα2=1.645 
The margin of error is then: 
E=zα2×σn=1.645×2.9810.5301 
Thus the marigin of error is 0.5301 
Result: 0.5301
