Step 1

Block matrices:

The matrix which can be broken by horizontal and vertical lines within it , divides that matrix into an array of sub matrices and said to be blocks.

Step 2

The obtainning resukt of array is called the partition of that matrix.

The process of forming these kinds of blocks are said to be partitioning.

For an example consider a matrix,

\(A=\begin{bmatrix}1 & 2&4&3 \\5 & 8 & 7&6 \\ 5 & 4 &2&9\\1&5&3&1 \end{bmatrix}\)

The above matrix can be represented as block matrix as follows.

\(A=\left[\begin{array}{cc|cc}1 & 2&4&3 \\5 & 8 & 7&6\\ \hline 5 & 4 &2&9\\1&5&3&1 \end{array} \right]\)
