Calculation:
Since the LCD is already given, find the number to multiply with 16 and 12 to get the LCD which is 84.
The easiest way to find the numbers for 8 and 6 is to divide the LCD (24) with the denominator.
48÷16=3
48÷12=4
In order to have equivalent fractions, multiply both the numerator and denominator of each fraction with the same number.
The number to be used is from the previous step done.
91633=2724
and
51244=2048
Simplify the numerators and denominators, we get
2724 and 2024.
We do not reduce the resulting fractions. If we did, we would get back to our original fractions and lose the common denominator.
