Probability is a branch of mathematics or statistics which basically deals with the probability of happening an event. The value of probability always lies between 0 and 1.
The event with probability 0 is called impossible events. The event with probability 1 is called definite event.
Let P be an event which indicates there will be a pandemic in 10 years and W be the event that there will be a war.
Then it is given that P(P)=0.10 (equivalent to 10%) and P(W)=0.08 (equivalent to 8%).
Then the complement of W indicates there will be no war, then,
P(W')=1−P(W) =1−0.08 =0.92
It is given that P and W are independent events.
Then P and W' are also independent events.
Probability that there is a pandemic but not a war is denoted by P(P∩W′), since P and W' are independant, there intersenction is smiply the prodict of that events.
Thus,
P(P∩W′)=P(P)×P(W') =0.10×0.92 =0.092
Thus 0.092 is the probability that there will be a pandemic but not a war.
