We have to expressing each side as a power of the same base
We have 4x=12
Consider the Right-hand side of the equation
12=(2)1 but 2=212
12=((2)(12))(1)=(2)12(1)
=212
Consider the Left-hand side of the equation
4x=(22)x=22x
Hence the expression of each side as a power of the same base which is 2.
Now equating exponent :
22x=212
we write 2x=12
x=14=0.25
Hence x=0.25
