let the cost of pizza be x
let the cost of the bottle be y
Theo buys a slice of pizza and a water bottle for $3 therefore, the equation becomes

x+y=3 (1)

Step 2

Ralph buys 3 slices of pizza 3x and 2 bottles of water 2y the total money he paid was $8

3x+2y=8 (2)

solving equation 1 and equation 2 to get the values of x and y substitute the value of x=3y from equation (1) in the equation (2) we get

3(3y)+2y=8

93y+2y=8

9y=8

y=1

Step 3

putting the value of y in equation (1) we get

x+1=3

x=2

therefore, the cost of the pizza is x=$2 and the cost of water bottle is y=$1.
