Let d and A1 be the diameter and area of first circle and D and A2 be diameter and area of second circle.
Then , according to given condition,
d=12
and
A2=214A1
A2=94A1
We know that area of circle is πr2 , that is πdr22
Step 2
Therefore, A2=94A1
π(D2)2=94π(d2)2
D2=94d2
D=32d
D=32(12)=24 in.
Step 3
Answer: Diameter of second circle is 24 in.
