In a survey, 100 questionnaires were left at the checkout line of a student cafeteria, and any student can pick the questionnaire and return it to the cashier.
The framework of the research methods and techniques is known as study design. An effectual study design always minimizes the bias in the data and increase the precision of the data that was collected.
In this study, the students are not randomly selected to participate. The individual themselves choose whether or not they will fill out the questionnaire and participate in the survey. So, this sample is an example of a volunteer sample.Because of that, this sample cannot be at all representative of the population. Only those with strong opinions are likely to respond to the questions asked in the questionnaire, whereas others probably would not respond. So, the sample will consist mostly the biased data. Therefore thevolunteer sample is a poor study design.
