A trend line should be drawn as close as possible to as many points as possible. The trend line should also have about the same number of points above and below it. The scatterplot has a very weak negative association so the line should have a negative slope but will not be close to the majority of the points. Anthony’s trend line, however, has a lot more points below it than above it. It is then not a good place to draw the trend line. The trend line should be placed farther down so there will be about the same number of points above and below it.
