distravelled by the clay and target s = 2.1m
initial velocity of clay and target be v
final velocity = 0
 = 0.5
here work done by frictional force = decrease in kineticenergy of clay and target system
work done by frictional force =  mgs
m = combined mass of clay and target = 100+500 = 600g =0.6kg
g=9.8ms2
decrease in kinetic energy of clay and target system =(12)mv2
therefore (12)mv2= ? mgs
plug the values and solve for v
v=(2gs)=4.53m/s
let velocity of clay before impact be u
mass of clay m1 = 100g = 0.1kg
Then initial momentum of clay = (m1)u = 0.1*u
final momentum of clay and target system =mv=0.64.53
in any collision momentum is conserved
then initial momebtum = final momentum
0.1u=0.64.53
u=27.2 ms
