An electric generator coupled to a windmill produces an average electric power output of 15 kW. The power is used to charge a storage battery. Heat transfer from the battery to the surroundings occurs at a constant rate of 1.8 kW. Determine, for 8 hours of operation:
A) the total amount of energy stored in the battery, ink J
B) the value of the stored energy, in $, if electricity isvalued at $0.08 per \(\displaystyle{k}{W}\cdot{h}\)

Stored energy in battery, \(\displaystyle{E}_{{{s}{t}}}={15}-{1.8}={13.2}{k}{W}\)
In \(\displaystyle{k}{W}\cdot{h},{E}_{{{s}{t}}}={13.2}\times{8}={105.6}{k}{W}\cdot{h}\)
But \(\displaystyle{1}{k}{W}\cdot{h}={3.6}\times{10}^{{3}}{k}{J}\)
\(\displaystyle{E}_{{{s}{t}}}={\left({105.6}\times{3.6}\times{10}^{{3}}\right)}{k}{J}\)
The value of the stored energy = \(\displaystyle{\left({105.6}\times{0.08}\right)}\$\)

a) What is the angular acceleration of the propeller? Model the propeller as a slender rod.
b) What is the propeller's angular speed after making 5.00 revolutions?
c) How much work is done by the engine during the first 5.00 revolutions?
e) What is the instantaneous power output of the motor at the instant that the propeller has turne through 5.00 revolutions?

An electric heater is used to heat a room of a volume \(\displaystyle{62}{m}^{{3}}\). Air is brought into the room at \(\displaystyle{5}^{\circ}\) C and is changed completely twice per hour. Heat loss through the walls amounts to approximately 850 kcal/h. If the air is to be maintainedat \(\displaystyle{20}^{\circ}\) C, what minimum wattage must the heater have? (The specific heat of air is about 0.17 kcal/kg*Co.)

A truck engine transmits 28 kW (27.5 hp) to the driving wheels when the truck is traveling at a constant velocity of magnitude 60 km/h (37.3 m/h) on a level road. (a) What is the resisting force acting on the truck? (b) Assume that 65% of the resisting force is due to rolling friction and that the remainder is due to air resistance. If the force of rolling friction is independent of speed and the force of air resistance is proportional to the square of speed, what power will drive the truck at 30 km/h? at 120 km/h? give your answers in kilowatts and in horsepower.
