Volume of the wood =0.33
m3=0.027m3
Mass of the wood=densityvolume=7000.027=18.9 kg
a) A floating object displaces its own weight of water.
Mass of water displaced = 18.9 kg
Volume of water displaced = mass / density
=18.9/1000
=0.0189 m3
Volume of wood above the water surface =0.0270.0189=0.0081 m3
Distance from the top of the wood to the water surface =volume / base area
=0.0081(0.30.3)
= 0.09 m
b) Upthrust = 18.9 kg
The mass which has to be placed on top of the wood = 18.9kg
