Given:
The male health professionals aged 40 to 75 were studied from 1986 to 2000. A total 22086 subjects were studied. The study was conducted in order to determine the effect of lifestyle on the erectile dysfunction.
Observational Study is a type of secondary research or literature review where researchers infer output based on input which is commonly seen or heard. In observational study, researchers have no control over the research variables. However, in an experiment a group of treatments is applied to a set of patients and the affected are carefully monitored in a controlled environment. In the given case, the researchers have no control over the lifestyle of respondents. Therefore, it is an observational study.
There are mainly three types of observational studies i.e. cross-sectional studies, case control studies and cohort studies. In a cohort observational study, only a single group of people are studied in such a way that all members of the group have some kind of similarity. As in the given study all of the members are male health professionals. Therefore, the given study is an observational study with a cohort design.
