Roughly speaking, I would say that geometry is the study of the properties of the objects defined in certain types of "spaces", for example, distance (a property) between points (objects) in the Euclidean plane (a space).As for what should go between the quotes, I would guess that they're asking about the etymology of the word itself. In that case, the "geo" part comes from an ancient Greek word meaning "Earth" and the "metry" part comes from an ancient Greek word meaning "measurement". So I'd think "Earth measurement" is what they're looking for.
